Reagan from 'Reagan's Blob, Story about Birds' |
Remember when I said I'm starting a new series featuring my fave bloggers? That's really happening. Starting today. Get excited!
I'm honestly humbled to feature Reagan and her blog, Stories about Birds. Her blog, like mine, is not necessarily about one thing, but just her life in general. The difference, however, is that her life is super cool. Reagan is a hairdresser to the stars, wife to a hottie hubby, and momma to a little girl named Piper Jane who has Cerebro Costo Mandibular Syndrome.
I dare you to read Reagan's blog and not fall in love with Piper Jane. Or Reagan for that matter. Just promise you'll still continue to read my blog, okay guys? Okay!?

FAVE PLACES TO EAT IN NYC
Realistically, the places I eat most often are Westville, and Kitchenette. Westville (in the West Village) has great salads and sandwiches, but their market sides (vegetable platters) are my favorite. Kitchenette (in Harlem or Tribeca) is my go to brunch spot when I'm craving cheese grits. I also love Little Frankie's in the East Village for Italian, but don't get to go there often because the location is far from us. The best fancy meal I've ever had was at Blue Hill, where we sat next to Chelsea Clinton! It's amazing food that is all grown at it's own farm in Upstate NY. If I can name one last place it's Buvette. It actually might be my very favorite. It's a little French place in the West Village.
FAVE PLACES TO SHOP IN NYC
There is a boutique near my salon called Think Closet that has the sweetest dresses. It's hit and miss because they don't actually have sizes, just one of each item. But I always find something I love while I'm there. Also, there is this strip in Soho on Broadway, that has every store you ever need. Zara, H&M, Uniqlo, Muji, Madewell, Topshop, Mango and a million others. But the best H&M is on 5th ave. And if you are a Forever 21 girl (I go on an F21 spree about once every 6 months), the new Times Sq location has 4 floors and stays open until 1am. Most New Yorkers have to pretend they are too cool for Times Sq, but I don't mind it. Especially when I'm taking an out of towner with me.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF BEING A BLOGGER?
The biggest pro is that I love writing. The number one rule on my blog is that I can write about whatever I want. When it started growing I made a little pact with myself to not change the way I write in order to make an audience happy. Sometimes people tell me they don't care for certain topics but if it's something I have fun with, I don't really care. I don't want people reading if they aren't going to be nice, anyway. Plus I think one reason my blog has grown is because my personality comes through. People can spot a fake from a mile away.
I love comments. Every once in a while I tell a story from my childhood, and people will comment with their own hilarious stories. I have been caught laughing out loud by myself in public because of a comment someone has left. Also, recently my apartment was broken into and I was/am extremely shaken up about it, I've gotten a hundred supportive comments from people who have experienced something similar and I can't express enough how much it has helped me through it. The blogging community is full of wonderful people.
Last, blogging has brought me great opportunities! We had an article written about us in The Readers Digest and I've been able to do some really fun partnerships. I have a lot of things planned with my hair blog, Hairdresser on Fire, and anything seems possible! You never know who is reading.
The main con that comes to mind is that I'm a sensitive soul and have gotten my feelings hurt over mean comments. One thing I've noticed, is that the mean comments generally happen in the middle of the night. It helps to think maybe the commenter had a fluke bad day and were just plain cranky and tired, rather than me being the problem. I once had a salty commenter apologize months later for going ape in my comment section. She said she had just had a bad day and took it out on me, which confirms my theory.

WHAT ARE 3 BLOGS YOU READ RELIGOUSLY?
FAVORITE RAPPER
I have a current obsession with Nicki Minaj, but my favorite rapper of all time is Jay Z. Also, once I went to a party he threw and I got a picture with him. I still talk about the picture all the time, and when I show people it always ends in roaring laughter. It's either because I look crazy, or because Jay Z didn't know we were taking the picture. Or both.
