THE TERMINAL

Something traumatic happened this week and I don't know that I'm ready to talk about it yet but I'll try.

Okay...here it goes.

On Monday I spent 13 hours and 45 minutes at Chicago's O Hare airport.

....wait for it......

with a THREE AND A HALF YEAR OLD!!!!

It turns out the 2004 film, The Terminal, where Tom Hanks lives in the airport is a very realistic plot, the only difference being it's not a cute lil rom com but a f@cking horror movie.

Make yourself at home.

Our Spirit flight that was supposed to take off at 9am got delayed for a bunch of hours and eventually cancelled which was the reason for our new living arrangement. I jumped on Orbitz and booked the only other flight leaving for Houston that day but it didn't leave until 9pm that evening. #Neat

The first ten hours I think I held it together really well. There is an amazing playground in Terminal 2 and I was truly just grateful for that as opposed to being frustrated by the situation. I also met a fellow mom there who was traveling for a funeral and that helped me keep perspective.

The last four hours were more of a struggle.
Macy's ice cream cone comes to mind.

Specifically, when she smeared it across the window.

Or when this seemingly nice woman came up to me and whispered in my ear,
"Honey, I don't want to embarrass you but your sweater is on inside out" and pointed to my tag.

I thanked her graciously and pretended like this was new information to me but by that point I'd already openly sobbed in public like three times. It was going to take a lot more than an inside out sweater to embarrass me. In fact, the only real thoughts I had about my sweater at that point were in regards to its functionality as a noose.

The original Terminal concludes with Tom Hanks returning to his fictional country of Krakozhia after making out with Catherine Zeta Jones. Macy and I's ending was less interesting as we didn't get to kiss anyone and rolled into my very real apartment complex after 1am.

THE END

(But not really because I'm still experiencing symptoms of PTSD.)

PS - Last week I was interviewed on From Prosecco to Plaid about my new book, From J to Z.   Head over here if you're interested in reading that!
