Mamas + Makers Market - This Sunday!

You have plans this weekend!

Come see Julie and I (we're splitting a booth) where we'll be 1 of  30 local vendors selling cool ass shit. Julie will be selling her book Oops and her Greeting Card Line while I'll be slanging both From J to Z and 99 Problems.

Other reasons to come the market?

1. It's entertainment for your kiddo. Doesn't taking a day off from the humid AF park sound amazing? Bring your offspring to the air conditioned market where they can participate in crafts and face painting galore!

2. You can meet Linda Halpin, my mom who'll be in from Milwaukee, and potentially the Mace Monster if we decide to bring her. Jury's still out if she should come or stay back with her Dad.

3. Shop Til You Drop. There are going to be super cool vendors including but not limited to Burdlife, Teddy & Bear Prints, Shop the Manor, and Cuteheads

4. Lunch. A girl has gotta eat! They'll be a food truck at the market so Bon Appetite!

5. Hang with JuJu and I. We'll be bumping tunes from our library themed booth and there's been talk of bringing a flask of champagne but keep that on the DL.

See you guys this weekend!!

MY JULY FAVORITES

After months and months of you guys emailing me about starting a monthly favorites series*, I've finally gotten my act together to give my people what they want!

Without further ado, here's what I've been loving in July!!!

*I actually didn't receive any emails from you guys, but this was an easy and exciting way to introduce this post, and made me feel temporarily important.

MY FAVES

Just when you think you couldn't love Jennifer Aniston anymore, her Huffington Post article reminds us that we're complete and fully formed, just the way we are. A lack of partner or kiddo is not a reflection on one's happiness or a sign that their life trajectory is unfinished. Preach on Rachel Green!

Topshop Leopard Clog - Objectively the perfect summer. Plus the price is right at $48! They come in brown, blue, and pink two. Buy two pair - you deserve it.

OPI's Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya - I haven't bought polish in years because I do the whole shellac thing  but Candace turned me onto this hue and I need it!

The Roommate Book - My friend Becky Simpson's 2nd book is out and it's the absolute perfect 'lil thing to give to your favorite college student heading back to school next month!

Ali Wong, Baby Cobra- If you like Amy Schumer, you'll love Ali Wong. She's changing the game of female stand-up comedy in the best way possible. Delivering her act while preggo and having a bit about a previous miscarriage are examples of this. But I don't want to politicalize her stand-up because what's first and foremost about this girl is she's fucking funny.

10% Happier Podcast with Dan Harris - I 100% believe that meditating can make me 10% happier and love Dan Harris' podcast that interviews folks like Mario Batali, Gretchen Rubin, and Ariana Huffington about their meditation habits.

That's It Bars - I like the idea of Lara Bars but the taste? Bleh. I discovered That's It bars at a gas station of all places though and I'm in. The ingredients in the apple/mango bar are apple and mango. That's it! Ha! Order them in bulk for your kiddos on-the-go brekkie!

Hopdoddy Burger Bar - Now in Houston (in addition to Austin, Dallas, Denver, CA, etc.)  this place lives up to the hype! My first tips would be to dine during non-peak hours. The line is no joke and having to order at the counter is the one draw-back of the place. Two, and this is important, Uber there. They have an array of fun, creative drinks and you're eagerness to try them will leave you inebriated.

LIFE LATELY

Hi! How is everybody? Hopefully dying for a scintillating update about my life because that's what you're about to get.  Let's get on with it, shall we?

PICS OF KIDS AND MY BOOK
Nothing makes me happier than candid pics of kiddos with my book.
Especially the bottom left one - THAT'S MY NEPHEW!!!
If you don't have my book, feel free to buy it here. And if you want to share a pic of your kiddo with their book, you'd make my day! Upload it to your instagram and tag me (@greetingsfromtx) or you can email me! Hov!

SOUL CYCLE
Houston - we have a SoulCyle!

Me (most left and super sweaty and gross) with fellow girl bosses from left to right; Roz PactorEsther Freedman, Marla Murphy, Meredith Staggers

For those of you who that are all "Soul what"? SoulCycle is the spin gym that started in NYC and was made famous by its celeb clients like Kelly Ripa and Lea Michele. Despite the hype that surrounds SoulCycle, I was nervous for them coming to Houston as it's a saturated marketplace as we already have Define, Revolution, Ryde, and Ride (not joking - there's two gyms named Ride - just spelled differently) that offer very similar classes.

That said, SoulCylce was pretty great guys. They hands down have the best merch - I wanted to buy one of everything they had and their space is so bright and clean. For people not familiar with these type of spin classes - I love them because you get your cardio, but they also integrate aspects of yoga with candles, moments of guided meditation/silence so you get your mental benefits too.

If you're in Houston, def try SoulCycle. Tell them Megan sent you. They'll be, "oh that blogger that was super late to the event she was hosting and then died throughout the entire class?" To which you'll answer, "Precisely."

HAROLDS
New Restaurant alert - or at least new restaurant to me. Harolds on 19th street is where its at folks. It had been on my radar being right across the street from Manready Mercantile and Emerson Rose so the location is ideal. The food is great too. Harold's generously hosted my blogger friends and I upstairs where they serve southern and creole food.

Downstairs, however, they have what they call Harold's tap room and Alli's Pizzeria where you can INFUSE YOUR OWN COCKTAILS, pizza, and other snacks. Definitely put this on your to try list in Houston - it warrants it. I was sorta sick the night of the dinner so didn't have much of an appetite, I can't wait to go back so I can really indulge.

And, that is what's been going on in life lately.
Keep it real kids!
-Meg

SEASON ONE, EPISODE TWO OF MAD MEG TV

Season One, Episode Two of Mad Meg TV is now up on the website, where I chat with client, Aimee Frederick, about Blockhouse Coffee & Kitchen, opening in Richmond, Texas later this summer.

This is three minutes of must-see tv for all coffee connoisseurs (like myself) as Aimee is dropping serious knowledge in regards to how her shop differs from chain coffee shops like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.

MY (MONTHLY) MORNING ROUTINE

For those of you who have favorite bloggers and "you tubers" you know that "morning routines" have become a popular topic for them to share. Fear not, that's not what we'll be discussing today as I don't necessarily have a morning routine. The only consistent thing about my mornings is coffee, so I'll spare you from the scintillating details.
.

That said, I do have a morning "monthly" routine in that once a month I meet my blogger and business owner friends for breakfast at Houston's iconic Tiny's #5. We call it the Boxwoods Breakfast Club and about 20 of us show up at 8:30am to catch up, sometimes talk shop, meet with brands who usually sponsor the breakfast, and according to this photo, take prom pictures!? (Why are Esther and I posing like that?) #corsage

You guys know Esther, right? She's the founder of Cuteheads - a massively successful and adorbs kids line. (Macy got to model for the line once here!) I LOVE Esther and like many of my friends, I don't get to see her nearly as often as I'd like. I love knowing I get to see her once a month, minimally.

Most recently, Houston-based jewelry designer, Andrea Montgomery, (also a personal friend of mine) came to our breakfast and spoiled us accordingly. I went home with her letter necklace which I wear all the time. I suppose that's a "morning routine" - putting on her necklace.

Some of the girls in our group posing with Andrea (center.)

Here I'm rocking Andrea's coin pearl chandelier earrings which are to die (that's a verb people) and layered on a bunch of her bracelets.

Have a good day everyone!! Catch you on the flip!

PS - If you want to see what I mean about "morning routine" content - I recommend both Mimi Ikon's and Meg Biram's.

HOUSTON COLOR WALL + NEW TOBI DRESS

Hi friends! I've missed you!
Let me tell you about life!

First things first, Houston got an amazing color wall! It's the doing of my friends Ashley and Jared and I'll let them tell you about it here but so cool!

Candace and I stopped by the launch party for the wall last night and it was just delightful.

The weather was gorgeous.

Tons of friends and fellow creatives were there who I hadn't seen in a while.

It felt like quintessential Spring evening in that everyone had come out of hibernation to celebrate C O L O R!

Candace and I took a lot of pics like this.

If we look like we're in a loving and committed relationship its because we are.
I've been meaning to change my relationship status on Facebook accordingly.

Other new happenings in my life?

I have new fave store called Tobi which is where I got this Daryn Collared Shift Dress that I'm wearing. (It also comes in black.) Tobi sent me two other pieces that I'm excited to share  as well so stay tuned. I know the anticipation must be hard but do your best.

Sizing tip on this dress: I'm wearing a small and its tight. Not "that's so tight bro"  but literal tight. Consider ordering a size up but only on this dress. My other Tobi stuff fit true to size.

That's it for now kids!
Have the best day! I'm going to. Life is good!

*Other recs from Tobi include their DressesSkirts, and Bodysuits.

GO TEXAN DAY!

Every last Friday in February is known as "Go Texan Day" in Houston and it's become my favorite day of the year. City and suburb wide, kids go to school dressed up in Western gear, companies have chili cook-off contests at lunch, and, ta-da, the Houston Rodeo opens up for business.

Macy on "Go Texan" day.

I loved scrolling through Facbook  and seeing my friends' kids in their get-up as well.
I MEAN, look at these munchkins.
(Thanks slash sorry Andrea, Lindsay, & Candy-Rag that I straight up stole these without permission. It's fine, right?)

Lots of hard-hitting news delivered in cowboy hats.

"Trail rides" also are a thing on this day which basically means people from all the outlying suburbs get on their horses and ride in to "town" for the rodeo, all somehow meeting up around 5pm making for a festive parade outside the rodeo gates.

But you can also catch them earlier in their pilgrimage at a location convenient for you.
My Dad (who was in town visiting) and I somehow managed to track down the "Sam Houston trail ride", just miles from my casa, for Macy's viewing pleasure.

Seriously, where do I live?

I like this cowboy's style!
It's 5 o clock  9am somewhere!

Macy with her teacher at school.

And just to make Friday even more great for yours truly, my Boxwoods Breakfast club met.  This is a group comprised of Houston's most influential bloggers that break bread once a month with a sponsor who's come to meet everyone in hopes of harnessing some of the influence to their benefit. Friday Vera Bradley came which was fun.

Get my country music star look by buying this Madewell shirt.

Me and my sister wives in our new Vera Bradley shadesI'm wearing the Nylah style in Brown Horn and I believe Julie and Candace are both wearing The Kit Style in different colors.

That's it for now kids! Hope you're week is great!

P.S. - My client, Shoes for Little Soles, is giving away a gift card on instagram and you have til noon today to enter! Go on and get yours!
