$100 GIVEAWAY FROM WAYFAIR

Raise your hand if you've ever heard of Wayfair! Danny and I ordered an ottoman from them back in the day, before I had ever heard of them, and I was like "I hope this random company isn't some internet scandal puppeteered by Al Queda." But our ottoman showed up and it was awesome. (Operative word being was. Toddlers people. Their perseverance to ruin things is commendable.) Slowly but surely I started to see commercials for Wayfair and by the time I met their press team at Alt Summit I was well versed.

Bonjour Doormat  *Photography (and more importantly, the baby, is via Paige Budde.)

Recently I've became a blogger for Wayfair which means great things for me, and more importantly, for you dear reader. For me it means I got to go shopping. Wanting to add a pop of color and some much needed pizzaz to our house entryways I choose doormats in addition to this sprinkler you recall from our Easter celebration.

And now its your turn. Go shopping at Wayfair! Just copy the link of what you'd want should you win, the name of the item, and your email address into my comments section. I'll pick one winner a week from today at noon.

*And because I'm a control freak, allow me to guide your shopping experience. These things were contenders in my shopping spree.

What Macy Wore: Faux Moccs

Welcome to the 2nd edition of What Macy Wore. Today the astonishingly loud 19 month-old  is wearing moccasins and a t-shirt from Faux Moccs - a super cool company that makes "vegan and eco-friendly moccasins for tiny toes."

Photos by Awake Photography.

Grabbin her tumbler of Red Bull and vodka.
Just kidding - it's obviously not Red Bull. It's Kool-Aid.

Faux Moccs people - check them out. In addition to looking adorable on kiddos they're super easy to slip on in situations when, oh I don't know, Macy is crying and yelling "pizza" and we're late for gymnastics and I have coffee in one hand and the diaper bag in the other and the dog is barking in a rabies-like manner because the mailman with dreadlocks is at the door and then you decide "fuck it" we're not going to gymnastics and instead spend that allotted hour reading up on George Clooney's fiancé because good for her.

In situations like that you want an easy shoe to slip on and/or a tranquilizer.

THE END

Disclaimer: This edition of What Macy Wore was sponsored by Faux Moccs but all opinions and verbiage were of my own volition. While my integrity can be bought -  the starting point would be around 5 hundo. At least.

Greetings from Texas for PEERFIT

I'm exhausted, sore, hopefully skinny, and definitely feeling great as I begin to type this sponsored post for Peerfit. The Peerfit Sweatpass is a monthly membership that gives you access to a plethora of top gyms and studios in Houston. (Or wherever it is that you reside.) So instead of buying a membership and locking yourself into one gym, this bad boy lets you frequent a handful of places! My biggest problem regarding working out is that I'm lazy it's boring. But when you are switching it up, like I was fortunate enough to do this month, it nips the monotony in the bud and makes working out more exciting.

Indulge me by reading about my recent workouts below.

JOY YOGA -  I loved the 11:30am pilates class I took. It wasn't crowded, the teacher was great and likeable, and the purple studio was flooded with natural light - it was just a very zen hour of my life. (Minus the abs portion of the class - Mother fucker!) I'm looking forward to trying the Voss location that's even closer to my house.
REVOLUTION SPIN - I've attended spin classes before and always thought they were meh. But this class was conducted in the dark with candles and by an instructor that got off her bike and danced. It also, like yoga, incorporated a spiritual aspect into the class that I think is rare (for spin workouts) and I really like that aspect.

BABY BOOTCAMP - For a being productive-obsessed person like myself I loved that Baby Bootcamp KILLED TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE. I felt like a great mom because Macy was essentially on a massive playdate running around the gym with the other kids there. But as I was watched her steal other kids snacks and disperse them throughout the gym, I was immersed in a workout that involved weights, bands, sprints, and too many bear crawls across the gym floor. I definitely plan to start going to this class on a regular basis.

BIG YOGA- My first time trying out a heated yoga class. My favorite thing about this studio was the atmosphere. It was clean, colorful, and had one of those vibes, similar to Whole Foods, where you just feel healthier by being there. They had a great looking juice bar that I wished I'd ordered something from and kids yoga! The minute Macy turns three I'll be enrolling her in those classes while I take a class in the other room.

*In addition to Houston, Peerfit exists in Austin, Kansas City, and is launching in Atlanta this summer! Additionally, if you refer someone to Peerfit - you get your next month free. Get it girls! (And boys.)

Namaste.
XO, Megan

BLACK BEAN BROWNIES

Prepare to have your mind blown and life changed.

Yesterday I happened to have the Dr. Oz show playing in the living room while I was in my office. Only half listening my ears perked up when they started talking about brownies - in typical Dr. Oz fashion, black bean brownies. A quick google search later I had printed this recipe from The Minimalist Baker. (I ended up adapting it heavily. My recipe isn't vegan among other changes.)

After tasting the batter, then binge eating it, I knew I was on to something orgasmic. It tasted just like the Duncan Hines box mix that I'm accustom too - but better as it was fudgier. I  made these suckers just this morning - so they're hot off the press and I'm on a brownie high. (Though that could be the weed I put in them.) I told you I made adaptations!!

Ingredients
-15oz can black beans, well rinsed and drained
-2 eggs
-3 T olive oil
-3/4 cup cocoa powder
-1/2 tsp sea salt
-1 tsp vanilla extract
-1/2 cup (and a pinch extra) sugar
-1 1/2 tsp baking powder
-Crushed almonds for topping (obvi optional)

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Grease 12 slot muffin pan
3. Throw everything (minus almond topping) in food processor and pulse it til its the normal consistency of brownie batter
4. Eat tons of the batter - it's amazing!!!!
5.Distribute batter into muffin tin (Mine only made 10 muffins)
6.Top with almonds.
7.Bake for 25 minutes.
8. Let cool for 30 minutes before removing from pan

Has anyone tried these before? Or plan on trying them now?

Weekend Update: Easter Edition

Easter came and went and we embraced the holiday fully.
Easter baskets? Nailed it.
Easter Egg hunt? Obviously.
Church? Radio silence.........

I suppose we could be accused of enabling Macy's Elmo addiction. Better Elmo then Ecstasy or something. Parenting is all about perspective people. Write that down.

Yes!!!! Who Wore it Best - Easter edition!

Cousins.
Wayfair graciously sent us this sprinkler which we debuted with this weekend.
I've got more Wayfair fun in the works so get real excited.

Not this excited though.

I got a new suit from an uber fancy store called Targé.  Be my twin and buy it here.

Danny drinking and cooking with beer like the true alcoholic he is.

Booker had auditions for the Love Boat this weekend so he was a little preoccupied.
JK - Book is recovering from a recent surgery. He'll be fine though and can resume a normal dog life in which he doesn't look ridiculous.

And now the comments! Talk to me!

MY DREAM EASTER BASKET

 photo DREAMEASTERBASKET_zps6b786ed1.jpg

Easter has always been a "meh" holiday to me but  its much more exciting now that we have Macy aka "The Beast". I'm so excited to slip on her Easter dress and send her on a Easter egg hunt. Plus we'll be spending it with Nicholas. And because the best way to celebrate Jesus's resurrection is by reflecting on material items, here is the rundown of my dream Easter basket.

1. Garance Dore (who I got to hear speak at Alt Summit! eek!) has a new line with Rifle Paper.

2. Nars Lip Pencils - I've been eyeing them to long. I just need to buy one all of them.

3. Garden Collection Iphone cases - They are EVERYTHING.. There are 8 versions to choose from at Moorea Seal.

5. New Balance shoes - I haven't bought new workout shoes in years. Probably because I haven't worked out in years.

6. The Madwoman in the Volvo - I read a personal essay by this author in Bazar last night and loved her voice. Plus her book is a memoir which is 99.9% of what I read. And its about menopause - I'm livin that dream girlfriend!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!
Muah! ~Megan

Color Association

 photo red_zps7a8808ed.jpg

Yesterday Macy and her nanny were at Lowes. While her nanny, Wanda, was carefully inspecting what to buy, Macy stood next to her closely examining the father and son duo approaching. As they came closer it became evident to both Wanda and Macy that this little boy, perhaps age 5, had the reddest hair known to man. Fire engine red.

Macy, confident that she innately understood this situation despite her 1.5 years in age, locked eyes with this boy, pointed directly at him so not to be mistaken with anyone else in the aisle, and screamed bloody murder, "ELMO!!!!".

Wanda, being the retired kindergarten teacher that she is, told Danny that this toddler thought process is called "color association". She also mentioned that this boy will need extensive therapy.

MY FAVORITE ARTIST

While many admire the works of Picasso or Van Gogh or even more contemporary creators like Andy Warhol, my favorite artist of all time is a chic named Linda. Linda lives in San Antonio, is possibly the sweetest person I know, and has an etsy shop called Though Very Humble.

I read Linda's blog for a while so when I saw her at a blogging event for the first time I was starstruck and intimidated to talk to her. After seeing her at a few more events, however, I realized she was the nicest human ever and now I think we're friends. I don't know - we'll see if she likes this post.

While I love Linda's prints, penmanship pieces, and what she calls her "hip hip hoorays" (invitations), her portraits are what I'm really obsessed with and often buy them as wedding presents for friends.

For example, this is my friend Lucy whose wedding I recently attended. Last week Linda finished Lucy's wedding portrait. My favorite part is the purple necklace that Lucy's groom is wearing in the picture. Everyone at the wedding was wearing them on the dance floor and I feel like it captures the spirit of the night.

This couple is called Megan and Danny. They are pretty cool. A few years ago they modeled in a style shoot for BHLDN and Linda drew this cameo style portrait accordingly. Again, I want to stress how cool Megan and Danny are.

These are our friends Paul and Rosa!!! Fun fact about Rosa - she was an integral part of Danny and my courtship. I can honestly say Rosa and Jaegarbombs are two huge reasons  Danny and I are together today.

Aww. This was my buddy Meaghan (hi Meags!) who I worked with when I was a recruiter in Chicago. Meaghan went on to work at a McKinsey Consulting, a super prestigious firm that Chelsea Clinton once worked at. My career path is obviously equally distinguished and perhaps best illustrated by yesterday's post where I wrote beautifully about getting drunk in New Orleans.

Alright, go check out Linda's shop! Ready, Set, Go!

HOLA FROM NOLA

My extended family has developed a tradition in which when someone turns 30 they plan a destination "birthday party" and the majority of the family shows up to celebrate your ascendant into middle age. It was my brother's turn this weekend and so "The Halpins" (my maiden name) made a pilgrimage to The Big Easy.

The weekend started off with wedding dress shopping for my brother's fiancé, Julianna. Having been out the night before, our 10:30 appointment at the lavish bridal store was  rough. In fact, "someone" (I won't name names - on the blog anyway! I'm more than happy to reveal the identity via text!), may have thrown up in the bridal store bathroom.

My cousins Jessie (left) and Kim who are part of my heart.

This is us indulging bridezilla Julianna in what she was calling "her day".

I made everyone stop at Sucre for macaroons and gelato because I read that Jay Z and Beyoncé had been before.
Only in New Orleans! That's my mom on the left! JK, obviously. She's on the right!

And somehow after 48 long hours of partying, the main event -my brothers actual party - rolled around. He had rented a balcony off Bourbon Street so that we could throw beads to the people (and in one interesting case, a cop!) below. (It was actually the same venue as this should you recall.)

I have very few pictures from the night that are blog appropriate. Nobody needs to see a bunch of people in their 30's grinding - especially when so many of them are related to one another.

Happy 30th RyRy.

Annnnd my favorite picture of the trip.
It doesn't really need explanation, right?

Now - for some announcements.

-Did you enjoy this post? I just posted more NOLA pictures from the weekend on my facebook page!

- I'm going to be on the wagon for a while. Drinking is for sinners.

- Family and fellow NOLA party goers - I'm going to make a movie of our trip because that's apparently my new hobby. Danny's just glad I'm no longer trying to play the piano "by ear". Email /text me pics that I should include. Make sure I look pretty and skinny in them otherwise your effort will be in vein.
