Danny's 20 Year High School Reunion

Because Danny is older than me, this weekend we attended his 20 year high school reunion from Pearland, (Texas) High School.
Danny (right) & his friend Steve (left.)

Here we posed for a photo;

Here Danny's class gathered for a group photo. Note Danny's extreme school "spirit".

Interestingly enough, Danny had considerably less spirit the next morning.

All teasing aside, we both had a nice time and were glad we attended. Additionally, it enabled me to learn much more about Danny in those formative years. For example, I learned that he made it through an entire year of "computer science class" without ever bothering to purchase the "computer science book". No big deal - I mean, computer science is one of those fields you don't need to know unless you work in it..........which Danny does.......Idiot.

I also learned that Danny struggles with amnesia. Upon seeing a particularly pretty girl at the reunion, I asked Danny her name and if they used to be friends. Danny told me he had "no idea who that was".  Two hours (and Coors Lights) later, however, it turned out that Danny not only knew this pretty girl but had briefly dated her. Idiot.

PS -  Have I mentioned I can't wait until my 20 year high school reunion?!?! What up Franklin Sabers!

99 Problem Prints via werdplai.com

Move over Van Gogh, Picasso, Andy Warhol, and.........other artists. (Seriously, those are the only artists I could think of off the top of my head. Sad.) Anyway, move over y'all because last week I discovered my new favorite artist of all time. (Which again, since I apparently can only name 3 artists isn't saying much, but still...)

Her (or maybe his?) name is Ali Graham and she has a daily illustration blog chronicling the life of Jay-Z.  Below are four of my favorite illustrations from the site.

Images, taken from http://www.werdplai.com/

Great, right? So funny. So creative. So going to be hanging in my house ASAP! Ali only makes 99 prints of each illustration, making them that much more special and exclusive which is why I need to stop blogging about her site and start ordering. BYE!

P.S. This is not a sponsored post. I'm just a huge fan!!!
P.P.S Thanks Becky and Sarah for putting this on my radar!

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my books were delivered yesterday. It was the first time since moving into our house, I was happy that we don't have a dining room table in our dining room. (Though I don't know where we're going to practice Booker's agility training now?!)
Don't try this at home folks!

So for those of you who ordered a book on Amazon (thank you by the way) I'm assuming you'll get your copy earlier than the date it gave you. I'm mailing over half of these bad boys to them on Monday.  I'll additionally be taking a bunch of books over to Brazos Bookstore today, where they'll be on sale as well. Chi town peeps - Eskell in Wicker Park is going to have hard copies that you can buy. I have other physical locations in the works as well so stay tuned on that.

And there I am. Doing just a real natural, non-contrived pose.

If you'd like to attend one of the book signings I'll be doing, the tour dates are here. (Though it was confirmed yesterday that I'm going to be doing at least one more signing, so stay tuned on that as well. Don't you guys love how mysterious I'm being? I do.) Anyway, Houston is up first as you'll see below.

That's it for now friends. Have a good weekend - I plan to spend it watching Season 1 & 2 of Breaking Bad, I hear it's good! XO

BIG PIMPIN ON A YACHT

Prior to Monday's Jay Z/Justin Timberlake concert, my cousins and I cruised Lake Michigan on a huge yacht. It felt very baller and very apropos given we were going to see the quissential baller that very evening. (I'm talking about Jay though let me go on record and say I'd never kick JT outta bed.)
From left to right; Jess, Jules, Anne-Marie, & Me!

"The Playpen" near Ohio Street beach is the spot of Lake Michigan we anchored and commenced our rap video-esque afternoon.

There was a lot of posing;

Even the Coast Guard couldn't help but notice our fly ways.

There was also a considerable amount of time spent jumping/diving off the boat.

Danny caught my jump on camera which I can only hope will begin my candidacy for 'Diving with the Stars'.

Overall, it will go down as one of the funnest (know it's not word and don't care) afternoons of my life.

And here's our official rap video from the day.

WEEKDAY TUTU

The Beyoncé concert inspired me to embrace my inner diva. Wearing a tutu on a Thursday seemed like a good way to begin.

I'm obsessed with these shoes - too bad their not mine. I stole them from Jules and the diva in me may not give them back.

QUEEN BEY

Jules, Me, and Mrs. Obama attended the Beyoncé concert last night. We didn't sit with Mrs. Obama or anything but she and her toned arms were there! Luke James opened for Bey and he sorta sucked. If I had to describe him it two words I would use "sexual chocolate". He sang really sexual ballads and was stripping. Very strange. Mrs. Carter however was what you'd expect from her; a star. We were on the floor and I couldn't believe the close proximity between her and I. Here are some pics and videos from the night!

DINNER IN THE CHI

Greetings from Chicago! Danny and I are 'home sweet home' this week and went to dinner  with my brother and Julianna last night to celebrate.

Jules made a reservation at Siena Tavern, a restaurant that proved to be very cool. My only complaint would be that the restaurant has been known to over serve people, something I may or may not have fell victim to last night.

It's not so much that I was drunk, as much as it was a equilibrium issue.

Ah, I love my brother. We look so sweet and affectionate in this picture. Really though he's just helping me stand up.

To sum up;
1. Chicago is the best.
2. So are martinis.
3. I'm going back to bed now.

99 Problems But a Baby Ain't One - BOOK TOUR

I'm excited and nervous to announce this very modest book tour that I'll be conducting within the next few weeks. If you happen to live in the following cities I'd be pumped if you stopped by.

All of the events are open houses with the exception of my Houston signing in which I'll be doing a little presentation of my book which starts precisely at 7pm.  (Followed by a Q&A and then a signing.) If you have ideas on what I should say during this respective presentation, feel free to email me as I've yet to wrap my head around that yet. I can just hear it now "Uh, so this is my book. I wrote it."

Anyway, more details on each leg of the tour below. And if, sadly, you don't live in the following four cities, you can always buy the book on Amazon. Just saying.

LINKS I LIKE

Photography credit here

I VOUCH FOR THE FOLLOWING LINKS - THEY'RE LEGIT

  • I still wouldn't say I have tons of friends here in Houston but I do have a handful of chicas I've come to love. One of them being Paige. Another one of them being Lucy. So you can imagine how happy I was when they teamed up to do this Bohemian Style Wedding Shoot. These are my favorite pictures Paige has taken TO DATE. Proud of both my friends.

  • This 5 minute clip of Jonah Hill on Conan seriously, like legit, made me sob because I was laughing so hard. I then showed it to Danny who enjoyed it as well though admittedly didn't cry. It's a few weeks old but if you haven't seen it, it's a must see.

  • Fell in love with this black, leather peplum top at Target but tragically they were out of my size. Thankfully I can get it online though I might try popping into another Target first. If you happen to run into me there, get out of my way.

The Everygirl

Just to keep all of you on your toes, I've decided to appear on The Everygirl today. The feature that I'm in is called "7 Ways to Style Hair for Every Summer Occasion" and I was honored to model "the morning commute" look. (Which is ironic given I work from home. Trust me when I say my hair doesn't look good during the trek from my bed to my office. It actually tends to resemble the look I have going at the end of this post. ) Anyway, the sideknot stylist Lindsey Kidd did on my hair was super cool and something I'll definitely be re-creating not just in the summer but all seasons.

Here are the rest of the looks - pop over to The Everygirl and check 'em out!

*Thanks to Allyson Fulcher for inviting me to be a part of the feature, Paige Budde for photography, Lindsey Kidd for hair, & Natalie Laine for makeup.

The Long Weekend, In Portraits

Weekend of July 4th, 2013
Macy; Crawls through her tunnel toy with the utmost charisma.
Danny; Like Picasso but in lieu of brushes, his creative process involves Coors Light.
Booker; He's never met a bone he didn't like.
Megan; Devoured this book because it was so good. (Also fun that it is set in Houston.) If you're in the market for something to read, I highly recommend it.

Margaritas To-Go

Despite having lived in Texas now for over two years, I still get homesick - especially lately. Perhaps its that I have a baby now and want my family to see her grow up. (And more importantly, babysit.) But this weekend I was reminded that my homesickness is stupid and that Texas is amazing.

You know what the perfect cure for homesickness is? A 20 oz. margarita with an extra shot of tequila. Works like a charm.

THE END.

Lady Megan

My employee discount at Cheeky Vintage was utilized most recently on this top. I wore it to dinner on Friday and again Sunday. Had I gotten dressed on Saturday, I would have worn it then too but it seemed a wee dressy for laying in bed and watching Season 2 &3 of Downton Abbey. Yes, that's right two seasons in less than 24 hours. Danny was annoyed, especially when I told him given the opportunity, I would leave him for cousin Matthew.
Please note how my hair mildly resembles Lady Mary's signature 'do.
